Enlil & Enki: The Anunnaki Brother Gods That May Be The Biblical Good And Evil

According to ancient Sumerian texts, Anu, the supreme Lord of the Sky, had two sons, Enki and Enlil. The two half-brothers were often enemies, with Enki usually the stronger brother. From Earth’s viewpoint, Enki was the first of the Anunnaki to explore Earth, but Enlil was later brought in to run operations. Essentially, either Anu or the Anunnaki people decided that Enlil was in charge, or Enlil took that power.

Enlil was the elder of the two brothers. His mother, Ki, was Anu’s younger sister. Enki’s mother, Antu, was Anu's older sister. Enki believed that he should be the King, because the position should have progressed through the female line and Antu's hierarchy. Few later religions worshiped Enki, with most worshiping Enlil or analogous names for them. Enlil, however, would prefer to demean the notion of a matriarchal line of succession. Mesopotamian and Egyptian religions followed Enki, where nature is a great mother.
These two brother forces would consistently conflict. Enlil is usually the supreme god. Enki is often seen on the other side of Enlil, and regularly portrayed as an evil force. From a Biblical perspective, Enki was the serpent in the garden, who convinced Eve and Adam to eat fruit from the tree of knowledge, and Enlil was the power that drove them out of Edin. Later, in the time of Noah, Enlil either created the great flood or omitted from helping man, while Enki provided boat plans to Noah. Nonetheless, Enlil gets credit for the ark.

Abraham experienced the wrath of Enlil at the fall of Ur, and was prepared to sacrifice the life of his son, Isaac, to appease him. Abraham and his descendants served Enlil and followed his orders as closely as possible. At some point, Enlil became threatened by the humans that followed Enki and large wars broke out. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by nuclear weapons or other highly advanced technology, and the Sumerian civilization was wiped out.

Though Genesis explains these cities were leveled because of their wickedness, Enlil was actually unhappy with their level intelligence and wisdom. It was also at about this time that the gods of man stepped back and ceased controlling earth through overt measures.
